Bedbugs on the Decline in New York City

The bedbugs that have plagued New York City in recent years may be abating. Bedbug violations have declined somewhat, though there are still many instances of violations. The city’s helpline has also received fewer calls. Those two metrics are considered the “leading indicators” for the problem. Hotels, which have seen perhaps the greatest share of the bedbug panic, due to the fact that travellers are often vectors for the pests, have been proactive in implementing measures to reduce bedbug infestations, and the city has set up a website to help residents prevent, recognize, and treat infestations. All of this is not such good news for those in the business of keeping New York’s buildings bedbug-free, but the city isn’t out of the woods yet.
