A viral news story helped ABC7 newsroom janitor Keanon Kyles gain the confidence to take an opportunity to apply for an opera in Scotland. He was offered a part in the Clyde Opera Group’s production of La Boheme and was flown to Glasgow last summer. Now, he’s been offered a lead performance with the company.
A janitor at Wilson Magnet High School, who grew up in rural Ethiopia, was able to watch both of his children graduate at the top of their class from the school where he works. Jamal Abdullahi, who works the swing shift as a custodian, pursued a career in the janitorial industry while earning educational degrees, including a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
