New York City Considers Prevailing Wage for Building Service Workers

The possibility of a mayoral veto of the legislation exists, but with the council voting45-4 in favor of the bill, there are enough votes to override a veto if it occurs. Service workers employed in the 41 buildings that receive city tax exemptions would see a pay increase of 35 to 45 percent. Under the prevailing wage scale, a serviceperson employed in a large building would receive $24.77 an hour, and $22.57 an hour in a smaller building.
