Spartan HealthCheck® trains, validates, and documents environmental service staff leading to a reduction in healthcare-associated infections

Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) are a costly and unwanted problem for health care facilities today. According to the CDC, approximately 1 out of every 20 hospitalized patients will contract an HAI. HAIs are also a public health issue; adding approximately $30 billion to U.S. health costs each year. As a result, the prevention and reduction HAIs is a top priority for not only health care providers, but for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as well.
It is scientifically proven that rigorous and regular environmental cleaning, as part of an environmental infection control program, is associated with major decreases in HAIs. Training of environmental services staff on how to clean more thoroughly is paramount to the success of the program.

Training tools and documentation for environmental infection control in health care facilities
Spartan has designed an environmental cleaning program that addresses the challenges that ES (environmental services) managers face when developing a system to optimize the thoroughness of high touch surface cleaning as part of terminal room cleaning at the time of discharge or transfer of patients. Spartan’s HealthCheck combines education, training tools, and documentation with Spartan disinfectant and cleaning solutions to provide a complete environmental infection control program for health care and other facilities where healthcare-acquired pathogens (HAP) or HAIs are a concern.
Spartan’s HealthCheck uses a three-pronged approach to ensure proper environmental cleaning is achieved – TRAINING, VALIDATION, and DOCUMENTATION. CleanCheck, a web-based, multi-lingual training system educates staff on cleaning standards and methods. Handy, portable CleanCheck procedure cards reinforce the training program and provide a framework for adherence to the standard going forward. This process is supported by Spartan’s UVcheck® validation tools. Hermetically-sealed UV marker swabs and a portable black light allow ES managers to train and assess staff cleaning operations while minimizing risk of room-to-room transfer of HAPs. The data from this training process can then be loaded back as part of the personalized performance tracking in Spartan’s CompuClean® CMMS (Custodial Maintenance Management Software) which allows ES managers to document activity in order to track and verify program progress and identify areas of concern. In combination with Spartan’s wide range of cleaning and disinfecting chemicals, the system provides an end-to-end solution for environmental cleaning for health.
Cleaning for health is not only a concern for health care facilities. In K-12 education facilities, school budgets are heavily dependent on attendance for funding. A clean, healthy environment leads to better attendance.
